 Privacy Policy

We take privacy issues seriously and this section details what kind of information we may collect from you and how we may share it.

To summarise here:

Malcolm Wade and his website designer Charles Paxton aren’t asking you for any more of your data or asking to use it differently.

He has just updated his Privacy Policy to make it simpler to understand

what data we collect from you, Malcolm only needs the information that he asks you to provide him with to book your Lakeland walks and other adventures. That’s all. If you want to write any comments on his Facebook page or this blog or stay in touch in later life, that’s up to you, and it’s fine with Malcolm.

how he uses this data. He uses contact details to contact you and arrange your schedule and to ensure that you get the best chance to learn navigation skills and become certified.

and the rights regarding our treatment of your data.  You have the following rights to privacy regarding your data:

1.YOUR RIGHT TO VIEW ANY PERSONAL DATA THAT I HOLD ABOUT YOU

The Data Protection laws give you the right to access information held about you, if any is held. Any access request may be subject to a fee of up to £20 to meet my costs in providing you with details of the information (if any) that I hold about you and any information request must be accompanied by acceptable proof of your identity. I won’t just give your data to any one who asks for it. It may very well cost nothing to provide that information to you. I’ll verify important or complex instructions with you by voice. Please note that I don’t store information other than contact details, website files and invoices on my password protected PC so it may well be the case that I cannot oblige you with any other information about yourself. I know no personal information about website visitors unless they make comment about it or interact with my Facebook or blog. Even then I can only know what you tell me about yourself. On Facebook you can remove any comments made yourself. This is the Opt-in information age.

SECURITY of DATA TENURE

I recognize that it’s my duty not to treat your data irresponsibly. My digital equipment is protected by anti-virus software, and is backed up periodically on an external hard drive. I also keep written information about websites off-line. This is very necessary for various reasons, equipment failure. How often does a pencil and paper let you down? This also goes for my website designer, Charles Paxton of thewebcat.biz.

2.YOUR RIGHT TO HAVE SOME OR All DATA I MAY HOLD ABOUT YOU DELETED

In the event that you’d like some or all your data deleted or your data taken off-line, please make your request to me in writing and I’ll verify the details of your request with you by private phone-call to prevent mistakes, and then serve your request faithfully.

3. YOUR RIGHT TO MOVE YOUR DATA OFF MY SERVER

If you choose to go to another guide or instructor that is your God-given right and I will facilitate where necessary. In the event that the website moves to another designer or server I have assurances from my website designer of his service in this matter too. Freedom of choice in continuity is important.

4. INFORMATION IN EVENT OF DATA SECURITY BREACH

Data breaches can happen to even large organizations such as banks and govt. offices. If I become aware of theft or loss of your data from hacking or equipment failure or any other possibility I shall endeavour to alert you as soon as possible. Please alert me if you become aware of such a risk, such as losing your notebook or lap-top that might have security implications for us. I can’t imagine how it might impact us but we’d be grateful to be alerted. You are entitled to be alerted within 72 hrs by GDPR rules of a breach.

I can also be contacted by phone or SMS.

Please note that you can improve security by not using the same password for different purposes and changing your passwords regularly. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you notice anything suspicious about the operation of this, or any sites that I made or manage. Thank you.

As I said you don’t have to do anything to enable greater rights to the protection of your data, that is granted by law. We still hope that all website visitors will adhere to our terms of use as described in this document.

I hope that you can use my website and blog with confidence. I hope to help you too, enjoy fantastic experiences and get certified  in mountain navigation!
